Matteo Russo is a young seventeen-year-old Umbrian rider with a passion for show jumping. His horse riding adventure began in late March 2015 and since then he has achieved many good results in various competitions, culminating in 2023 with his entry into Team Goldspan 2024.

After taking his first steps at the “Il Cavaliere” Equestrian Club in Foligno with instructors Mario Papa and Federica Cavalleri, he won the bronze at the Centro-Meridionale Italian Championship in 2018, a result that qualified him for the final of the Progetto Sport in Verona, where he finished in 8th place. In 2020, he participated in his first Youth Italian Championships in Arezzo, finishing in 8th place. In 2021, he came in 2nd at the Umbria Regional Championships in C125 and made his debut at Piazza di Siena. He continued his journey at the Valvasone Equestrian Club in Corciano, with instructors Beniamino Capurso and Elena di Valvasone.

2023 was a successful year for him: he placed 2nd in the Next Generation final at Piazza di Siena in the style category, won the Umbria Absolute Regional Championship, jumping the first C140, and finished 7th on the first day of the Absolute Junior Italian Championship.

He ended the year by jumping his first GP C145 with a clear in the first round, participating with the Umbrian team in the Coppa delle Regioni in Verona, achieving a nice 3rd place in the individual ranking, and closing the year with a 4th place in the GP C140 in Montefalco with two clear rounds.

Thanks to the help of the Umbrian Regional Committee, over the years he has had the opportunity to participate in numerous training sessions with federal coaches Giorgio Nuti, Piero Coata, Norma Paoli, and Italo Cirocchi. Due to his achievements in 2023, he had the opportunity to use the monthly prizes offered by GOLDSPAN in competitions and, on the occasion of Fieracavalli Verona, he joined TEAM GOLDSPAN 2024.

“Equestrianism is my passion and I am constantly committed to achieving new goals. I look to the future with enthusiasm and determination, ready for new challenges and adventures in the world of show jumping.”
